First Impressions of The Flash the Silver Age Vol. 1 Trade Paperback

Greetings and thanks for joining me as I embark on this fun reading adventure! Like I said, I’ll be starting with The Flash the Silver Age Vol. 1. Let’s begin with some first impressions!

The presentation of this book is terrific! The cover art by Michael Cho is well-suited and kind of continues on where Darwyn Cooke (R.I.P 1962-2016) left off with those retro style illustrations. It’s got all kinds of cool designs on the cover to push that retro look including a magnified Ben Day effect and checkered patterns. Love it.

The paper on the inside has a good feel to it and the colors inside are vibrant without taking away from the integrity of the book’s Silver Age contents. This is important for me as a recent purchase of Thor by Walter Simonson volumes 1 through 5 left me a little disappointed. Lastly, I’m very happy to see that the covers are all printed in full size before each issue.

This book contains reprints of Showcase #4, 8, 13 & 14 and The Flash #105-116. All of the issues featured in this book contain two stories with the first one sometimes being much longer than the second one, this is especially the case in the latter part of the book.
